role:
As a Design Director at Fitbit | Google I helped chart the company’s strategic roadmap and led teams responsible for design vision and execution across it’s full device portfolio (1BN+ in annual revenue). Under my leadership, the teams delivered ID, CMF, HW UX, Packaging, and Visualization on 10+ award winning devices (including 3 designed remotely during the pandemic), secured 28 patents, and helped grow Fitbit’s user base 400% to over 120MM users.
I led the teams in balancing user, technology, and business needs to deliver devices that turned Fitbit into a household name.
With my guidance, the team unified design language while cementing a tiered strategy across multiple product lines, redesigning Fitbit’s device portfolio from the ground up to look and feel great on every body.
By implementing a design language inspired by the human form (Biologic), we turned Fitbit devices into objects of desire that feel at home on any wrist.
Our products’ soft silhouettes and rounded forms delivered ultimate comfort, while enabling optimal sensor performance.
Working within strict business requirements, my teams balanced increasingly complex technology needs with those of ergonomics.
As our devices became more sophisticated every year, we collaborated with engineering to miniaturize internal components and come up with novel implementation and manufacturing solutions, delivering improved comfort and fit for all.
My team developed a CMF palette to look beautiful on a full range of skin tones. We built a custom tool that enabled designers to not only test colors on a variety of skin tones, but to also co-design with a broad range of users, reducing bias.
We further expanded Fitbit's appeal by making our devices versatile for every occasion. By building a proprietary, intuitive band attachment system and extensive accessory line, we enabled users to seamlessly tailor watches and trackers to their unique needs and desires.
My teams’ work played a pivotal role in make Fitbit a name synonymous with wearables. By continuously improving design aesthetics, usability, and effectiveness of our devices, we helped millions of people become healthier.
